Beauty is Dating the Beast

give me seven and I'll knit it all
except for the third and fourth
my mother warned me about those guys
they'll be left at the back of the queue
waiting patiently
for their green number to be called

and patience is a virtue
and prudence is our dog
and charity begins at home
and beauty is in the beast
at least
that's what someone told me

your spinach pie looks good on you
how do you get it to rise like that
we're all out of forks but that's ok
here comes the captain to speak
of travels in egypt
and the smell of sand that still lingers

and patience is a virtue
and prudence is out for a walk
and charity failed all her exams
and beauty is dating the beast
at least
that's what someone told me

when you look at me like that
I have so much trouble keeping
a straight face
that I look at you like a penguin
that gambled away its last peso
you know that

maths teachers line up in the back yard
calculating love and affection and parablolas
hyperbole's useful for those in the ganges
remember don't swallow the water and wait
half an hour after eating
before you go swimming because

prudence is a virtue
and charity begins with my dog
be patient with me this is my first time
and beauty just caught a plane east
at least
that's what somebody told me
